Ephemera:
archaeology on television
8 mins. © 2004
Though
made 8 years ago now, Ephemera remains my most artistically satisfying
and complete video work. Filmed at West Kennet Long Barrow, overlooking
the great Silbury Hill (UK), Ephemera stands as my showcase piece...
Somewhere
between video installation and talking head documentary is Ephemera.
This short film utilises the surface of Neolithic sarsen stone
as an ancient projection screen for a modern technology: video
projections.
In this tactile fusion between old and new, time and place, three
key archaeology/media figures discuss the subject of archaeology's
portrayal on television: Mike Pitts, Editor British Archaeology
magazine; Francis Pryor, President, Council for British Archaeology;
and Julian Richards, TV and radio broadcaster.
